Excerpt: Love is... "The Makings of a Man"

...
Do we grow up knowing what it means to love, truly?  Do we learn, at an age when our hormones are going wild and peer pressure abounds, that what it truly means to love is to be committed to oneself?  And if we are taught this, why doesn’t the lesson stick?  Why do we feel like love is based on our sexual gratifications?  Oh wait; maybe it’s just me that feels this way.

Love is overrated, but true love however, that is something pure.  It’s a feeling that comes and goes just as a lightning strike and if we’re not careful, we tend to miss where it is intended and settle for where we think it may have struck.

How can one be in love then fall out?  If you love someone, then at what moment do you stop loving him or her?  The hardest thing to try to explain to someone is that you still love them, yet your actions and thoughts have moved on to another lover.  How is that possible?  If I love you and you love me, how can you claim to love another?  Is love so dynamic, it can coexist between relationships simultaneously?  And if it is, then what is to stop someone from becoming promiscuous?  Or does it not work that way because that’s morally incomprehensible.

We get caught up in the idea of love and marriage so much, we don’t truly get to know the person but rather how the person displays the so-called emotion we believe we are dealing with.  And when those displays cease, when the flowers, cards and candies stop coming, when the notes on the pillow or text messages to say I love you during the day come to an end, well then suddenly things have changed.  The individual has changed.  The love has come to an end.  Is this a fair assumption?  Or is it that those things were done because he or she thought it was what you expected of love.  Or what they expected of love.

Perhaps the generosity was done in order to get your attention or capture your emotions or get you in bed.  And once it worked out, once they had achieved their initial objective, well now they feel like they have to continue to cater to you so you don’t think they are a dog or selfish.  Or maybe the sex is just that good, or appears to be at the time and you don’t feel like its worth giving up so you continue on with it to appease your own selfish desires.

True love.  If we are able to ever be fortunate enough to be able to say we are in love, we should cherish it for what it’s worth.  That, my friends, is a rare emotion shared on a rare occasion but when it comes along, we can only hope we are paying attention because otherwise, you may find yourself sitting somewhere alone years later wondering what happen to my love…

Rain

Drops of the rain, they fall from the sky
Arousing my physical, I'm not sure why
Listening to drops on the window dance
Enjoyment of passion, if given the chance
Exploring another
Dreams to confront her
Rhythms created between the two lovers
The gloom of the clouds dim the lights around
Must be the calm, or hard pours and sounds
Temperature falls, wind makes me quiver
Thoughts of the two, making me shiver
Lying inside and wrapped up so tight
Naked elation comes into sight
Enjoying the time to relax and be lazy
Kissing a lover, spending time with that lady
All combine nicely to drive me insane
Yet it always seems I'm alone in the rain.

Misunderstood

I believe I’ve crossed the line with u…
Stepped across that imaginary boundary
that defines us as friends and companions.
Overstretched the social barrier
that men and women constrain
the ideologies of what society
deem right and wrong.
I apologize…
But my mental illusions
            and graphic illustrations
            dominate my moral restrictions.
I mean, what I want to say is
            ‘”Hi, how are u?”
Phrased to convince u that I’m the type of guy
            who is respectful and just.
Far beyond thoughts of lust
To build a level of trust
that makes u want to confide in me
            and call me ur friend.
But I can’t lie…
No matter how hard I try
this inner being that sees u differently
wants more that anything to be
            heard…
So I try to speak words
            critically and carefully
            yet truthfully and directly
I want to know ur interest and wishes
Do u enjoy cooking? Shit, I’d do the dishes

Let’s take a walk late at night
Perhaps disagree, but never fight
And yet the truth…
It slips out from time to time
In innuendo or in rhyme
Because the lust I have inside
Is only for u…
So it deserves to be heard by u…
But I have to decide
            “Is it too soon?”
To tell u…
To touch u…
To taste u…
I want u but can’t decide if that’s right or wrong.
I can’t hold back the words when I see u
And fearing that my time with u
            is predetermined and predefined
within the constraints of ur mind
            I let u know…
I want u…BAD!
And now, I regret it
But it’s too late
And u make up ur mind
            that my intentions are wrong
            when the fact is
            that I am simply misunderstood
It’s not my purpose to offend
So perhaps next time
I’ll just stare from afar and remain
            …silent.

Choices

Decisions have to me made…
Do u desire my soft touch upon ur face
Pulling u tight in my embrace
Tasting ur lips with delicate grace
As I slip off ur fancy lace?

Or is it a fuck that u would prefer
Up on a desk, I’ll tickle that nerve
I’ll eat u out, don’t dare disturb
As u moan sounds u’ve never heard.

Is it possible to do both?

To fuck u mentally, yet love u physically…
And vice-versa

Taking time to deliver a passion u desire
Within ur heart like flames of fire
Is there a choice…

To love or to fuck?
To touch u or to choke u?
To move ur body emotionally with a slow intense stroke inside of u
Or to grab ur thighs and thrust inside, holding up ur short skirt for u
A delicate debate within my mind
A decision only to be made in time
Until I flip that coin to decide
I’ll just ask…
Which can I do for u?
